Be inspired with Moon Gardening planting days this February 2017

Welcome to February,

Peeping through the bean arch Moon GardeningLooking out the window this season I see that I have reached peak production of the beans, basil, cucumbers, strawberries and the pumpkins, along with the sweet corn, are beginning to swell nicely. Every one  is having tomato troubles as they suffered through the early summer cold spell and are just started to get going.
I wish you all the very best of abundance and joy in the garden, and in life.

Ancient Moon Gardening

Gazing out the window I can see the veggie patch and this month I have enjoyed feasting on broad beans. I love releasing them from the their feathery soft beds….such a joy to touch. Once lightly steamed, I toss them with olive oil and dare I say it…. salt. I probably eat far too much salt!

Since we last spoke the tomatoes fairly exploded out the ground and nearly 3 times a week I needed to add another stake! What amused me was that precisely when the cold winds stopped at the start of December, hidden seedlings from the old compost heap also exploded out of the ground… they knew precisely the best time to come out and play. It also shows me I am not generating enough heat in the compost bins! Hmmm maybe I did not alternate green layers with brown layers regularly enough. PS. Brown layers can also be paper waste and documents you do not want out in the rubbish bins.

The apple is growing in leaps and bounds but the plum has not set a single flower.

The Three Sisters (corn beans and pumpkins), are growing well and next year I will plant the sweet corn a couple of weeks ahead of the beans. For a while there I was scared to enter the patch and stand still for too long in fear that the beans would twine around me and tie me down!

The new strawberries that I moved and were not supposed to fruit… are about to. Ahh.. I love the constant surprises that a garden brings.

Gazing out the window I can see the veggie patch and remember last month when I said I was going to have a word to the Nandinas to tell to colour up…..or else!

Well…. I went out and gave them the hard word and it looked at me and to my mind’s eye said “speak for yourself!” Somewhat abashed I retreated. Later that week I was wandering through the local nursery and spotted a white Erica who said to my mind’s eye…. “wouldn’t I look good snuggled up between the two   Nandinas”.

Yes, yes and yes, … they do look marvellous and it does pay to follow ones inner voice as they are great sight with the Erica’s white flowers and spiky lime green foliage highlighting the reddish bushiness of the Nandina.

Ancient Moon Gardening

Gazing out the window I can see the veggie patch and last month I tidied up old stalks and dug over sections. Who needs a gym membership when you have a garden?

I also pulled out the last of the basil and for the first time I made my own Pesto. Don’t tell anyone but I actually prefer the shop bought one! My recipe clearly needs improvement but at least I can add what I have made into casseroles.

I finished planting some climbers, some shrubs and had a severe talking to the Nandina in hopes that it would improve on its red coloring. Buy cheap market unknown varieties..…repent at leisure!

How does your garden of life grow?
